Kevin J. Kelley, RTMA Executive Director
In November, the RTMA sponsored a conference with the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA), the Manufacturers Association of Central New York, and the Buffalo Niagara Manufacturing Alliance. Its purpose was to review and evaluate strategies to address the inequities in U.S. Trade Policy affecting manufacturing.
In an effort to create manufacturing growth in New York and the rest of the nation, attendees chose the following:
- A national manufacturing strategy which would bolster U.S. Production and eliminate the nationís existing and massive trade deficit.
- Tax reform which would make the U.S. internationally competitive, reduce itsí reliance on income tax, and include a border adjustable consumption tax that will facilitate domestic production.
- Trade agreements should be fully debated by Congress through regular order, rather than Fast Track Trade Authority Procedures.
On March 11-13, the Coalition for a Prosperous America is coordinating a "Fly-In" to Washington DC to lobby lawmakers on the above three issues. I will be participating both as Executive Director of the RTMA, and a Board Member of CPA. While I am representing the interests of the RTMA Membership, you may also wish to participate. I hope you can join me in making the case for manufacturing with the members of Congress.
